Photography & storytelling

The story of cancering.

I want to share the emotional story of cancering through photographs, drawing on Lauren Huffmaster’s book, Cancering: Exploring the Seasons of Emotional Healing.

“Experiencing life while impacted by cancer.”

Fear. Isolation.
Identity.

A diagnosis can unsettle the life you expected, the way you see yourself, and your place among the people you love. Lauren’s book gives language to those emotional experiences.

Through my camera, I want to give them a visible form. The fear of what comes next. The ache of feeling alone. The question of who you are when so much has changed.

These photographs are a way for me to explore those feelings, and the person living through them.

A woman in a dark jacket and pink trousers wears a treatment mask while holding a small bouquet. A woman sits in a chair holding cut hair while another person trims her hair with clippers.

And what can grow

The gift of cancer.

I also want to explore the gift of cancer: the unexpected closeness, clarity, and meaning that can emerge while living with it.

The hand that reaches for yours. A moment of joy. The courage to be seen as you are. I want to make room for those moments alongside the grief, and let the photographs hold the whole story.

“We are bigger than this moment or these struggles.”
